Create multiple windows in a playlist

When you create a new playlist, the entire Sign is filled with one ‘window’ by default. The window is a frame in which the media items play. In general we recommend keeping to this single default window because LED messaging is most effective when delivered in a slide show sequence of efficiently worded messages. A single window filling the entire Sign allows the text size to be as large as possible for greater reading distance and longer reading time.

That said, it is possible to have more than one "window" in a playlist. You can re-size and move individual windows to subdivide the area of the LED sign. Windows play simultaneously and independently. You add Playlist Media Items to each window. Effectively each window is a "playlist" within the Playlist.

  1. Create a new playlist. By default, the playlist has one window labeled 'A' that fills the whole LED screen.

  2. Note the px dimensions in the 'Sign Layout' heading at the top of the page. This is the width and height, in pixels, of the entire area of the LED sign. Under 'Sign Layout', on the right you can see the size and positioning values of the selected window. The values are window width(W) and height(H) in pixels, and X / Y position in pixels. In a new playlist, the width and height of window 'A' are the same as the width and height of the Sign, and the X / Y position values are both 0 which means that the top left corner of window 'A' is aligned with the top left corner of the LED screen.

  3. To create another window, under 'Sign Layout', select 'Actions' and 'New Window.' Note that a new window 'B' is added to the Sign Layout on top of window 'A'. The size of window 'B' is 50 x 50px and its X/Y position is 0. At this point you could create a third window 'C' etc.

  4. Select 'Actions' and select any of the options for positioning, aligning, or sizing the windows.

  5. With a mouse, you can click and drag the handles at the corners or edges of the windows to resize them. Click and drag anywhere inside a window to move it. On the right, notice that the W / H and X / Y values change as you drag. (Instead of clicking and dragging, you can manually change the W / H and X / Y values with your keyboard.)
NOTE for touch screen devices: you cannot tap and drag the windows or their handles on a touch screen, not even with a stylus. You will have to manually change the W / H and X / Y values with your keyboard.

  6. You can select windows using the dropdown control under 'Sign Layout', or the dropdown control under 'Playlist Media Items', or click/tap the colored window area itself. Note that the list changes under 'Playlist Media Items', depending on which window you select.

  7. Once you've added media items to the windows, select 'Actions' under 'Playlist Media Items' and select 'Preview Playlist' to see how all windows will play together on the sign.

  8. Remember that the media items in different windows are not related to each other. If you want to coordinate items across both windows, i.e. photos with captions, you'll need to add the media items to each window in the correct order, each with the same Play Time and no enter effects, or at least you will have to carefully match the Play Times, Enter Effects, and Enter Speeds of each item.
