LED Sign Help Directory

Add a video clip

NOTE: Video is intended for full-colour P10 or P6.67 LED screen. If you have a P16 resolution LED screen, you can play videos, but the content would need to be simple, high contrast lines or silhouettes. Video with many shades of color will look unresolved in the low resolution of a black and white screen.

  1. Select the 'Playlists' tab.

  2. Select a Playlist Name (don't tick the box).

  3. Under 'Playlist Media Items' select 'Actions' and 'Add Video'.

  4. Select 'Choose File'.

  5. Browse to your video, select it, and wait until the success message appears.

  6. Select OK, and you'll see the video added as an item in your playlist. Only the first frame of the of the video will appear in the preview for 5 seconds.

TIP: Videos must be 10 megabytes or smaller.

TIP: Supported video file types: wmv, avi, mov, mp4, mpg.

TIP: You can use PowerPoint 2010 or later to reduce the size of your video file to be smaller than 10MB, as follows:

  1. Open a new PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Select 'Design'.

  3. Select 'Page Setup'.

  4. Set the slide dimensions to 10% of your LED sign's pixel matrix. Your sign's pixel matrix is shown at the top of all its playlists in the heading 'Sign Layout ([pixel matrix])'. For example if the pixel matrix of your LED screen is 160 x 96px, then the width and height of your PowerPoint presentation should be 16.0 x 9.6 (move the decimal point one digit to the left in PowerPoint).

  5. Select 'Background Styles' and select the black tile.

  6. Select Insert > Video and browse to your video file.

  7. Center align the video on the slide.

  8. Select and drag the corners of the video (to preserve its aspect ratio) until two opposite edges of the video snap to the horizontal or vertical edges of the black background.

  9. Select ‘File > Save&Send > Create a Video’, and choose the ‘Portable Devices’ option to keep the WMV video file size as small as possible. You should end up with a WMV file that is much smaller than your original video file.

  10. Take a moment to preview the video before you upload it to the website, just to make sure it all looks good. Then select 'Add Video' in the playlist editor. Upload the WMV file to your playlist.
