My sign's temperature reading is always a few degrees too high

NOTE: We recommend you check out the 'current weather conditions' playlist media item which provides air temperature, "feels like" temperature, humidity, wind speed/direction, and daily rainfall information from each sign's local weather station, updated every 30 minutes (Australia only).

If you would like to continue displaying the temperature from the probe that is installed on the sign structure, continue reading. However, be aware that this temperature reading is subject to variances due to a combination of direct sunlight, the terrain around the sign, and the sign structure.

If the temperature on your LED sign is constantly reading a few degrees too high, the first thing you should check is the feedback on the website:

  1. Select a terminal.

  2. Select to expand the 'Monitor' Bar.

  3. You should see three graphs. The top graph tracks the temperature over a 24 hour period. You should see a pattern of warm daytime temperatures, increasing towards late afternoon, then dropping and leveling after dusk.

  4. If the pattern looks reasonable, then the temperature probe is functioning correctly.

  5. If the temperature is stuck on a wildly unreasonable number - for example 117 - or if the graph is jagged or patchy, the probe may need replacing. Contact the Danthonia Designs Service department on 1800 552 700.

There are a few reasons why your LED sign may read higher temperatures than, for example, your local weather station. The sign's temperature probe is not housed in a controlled environment, but rather is exposed to the elements. In addition, it is mounted directly below the LED screen, which generates some heat of its own. Depending on the sign's location and position, the probe may also catch direct sunlight during a certain part of the day, or absorb radiant heat from surrounding pavement and buildings.

However, if you notice that temperature is always high by a consistent number of degrees, you can use the 'Calibrate' field in the 'Add Temperature' item to compensate. For example, if the temperature is consistently 3 degrees too high, you can type '-3' into the calibrate field, and that will adjust what appears on the screen.

Again, if you cannot correct the temperature display with calibration, use 'Current Weather Conditions' instead of 'Temperature'.
