Joseph Banks Secondary College LED sign

Joseph Banks Secondary College is situated in the new Banksia Grove development, 30k north of Perth. Newly opened on January 2015, it is a state-of-the-art secondary school for students in Years 7 to 12.

The project architects, T&Z Architects, were looking for a lead signage consultant to handle the signage package and approached Danthonia to provide advice and consultation.

Liaising with the college’s graphic designer, the foundation principal and T&Z we planned and designed a creative and engaging branding and wayfinding signage suite.

The college’s style guide as well as the materials and colours of the building informed the sign designs. Each sign type not only matched the palette of the buildings, but way finding signs were subtly coded with a different coloured accent to enable recognition and navigation. The honeycomb motif, employed throughout the campus, represents the curled layering of the banksia flower.

Our service allowed the stakeholders oversight of the general look and feel of the signs without needing to spend time on details like sign message, reading distance, mounting method etc.

On Dec 1, we were commissioned to fabricate and install the signage. The majority of signs were to be installed in time for the school opening. In spite of the holiday season, we met the 4 February deadline.

The end result is a complete kit-out: 163 door signs, 9 building identification signs, 3 branding signs, 7 street pole signs, 4 map signs and the main school sign which includes a full-colour LED display.
